"Was he? The little boy without the shirt?" Xanthe says. "Well I guess we must understand other cultures if it is our destiny to rule them." He nods. "Precisely. Although I'm not sure what all their island has to offer other than the swordsmanship? And I think we can hire them anyways? No matter...any news on what happened to the headmaster?" "Nothing but superstitious rambling by commoners I fear. I swear someone must be trying to use their fear against them."

"It's how the masses are controlled. Someone should do something to reassure them..." He eyes the crayfish before taking one to try. "So...Rufius and Dierus - what do you do for fun around here?"

"It does." "It does seem none of these commoners have the same respect of magic." Xanthe sighs between bites. "What do you mean?" "Well take the duels for example. They think you can just play around with magic and not get hurt. They try to impose rules on it so that no one will be injured instead of teaching them that magic should be respected and controlled. If a mage cannot control his magic well enough to practice duel without rules than he is not ready to duel."

But they allow too many mages who do not have proper control to participate. And these rules aren't conducive to making mages learn control. They are like a crutch. They treat dueling more like it is fun than a serious business"

"Why bother letting in riff raff with no control anyways? One girl I half expected to set the ferry on fire."
