She turns to him, hope is her eyes as she nods. "Thank you Duke Yarrow, what would this Queendom be without you?" "Still a queendom I think. I'm just here to advise i think." The teacher gets up. " now all of you pay attention I do not want to have to repeat myself." Lan eyes the teacher carefully, he honestly seemed interesting. Lets just see if he was any better than his last one... Lan holds back an eye roll.

"Now we shall start in the beginning..." He goes on the explain about how magic is a genetic gift and how drakus was one of the first to discover this and begin breeding for it. Before drakus however mages were incredibly rare and most of the mages that were born ended up killing themselves on their first or second attempt at drawing in power. There are a few records of mages surviving and going on to teach others but they died so often it was rarely heard of or noteworthy. The primary form of magic before the empire came to this continent was Elemental magic which originated in Altirich in the central desert portion of the continent. It's art has been lost to time but in it's height it was supposedly as widely used as magic is today. Some records say that it first disappeared after the empire defeated them, and some say it was already dwindling before the empire even got there and that the Imperials would not have been so successful if the elementalists were at their full power.
Magic as we know it today was first developed by the noble families of Crysynthe hundreds of years before drakus. It was incredibly rare to find a mage, maybe every one in one thousand became mages by the time drakus was born, and thus they were prized commodity. Fewer yet survived long enough to learn to control their magic since there were very few mages able to teach magic.

She asks out loud.

Reports do indicate that they were more limited than our magic. But all of the practitioners of such were dead before anyone could get their secrets out of them."
