"Remember how they mentioned testing out of classes, I think that is what the test was. I mean they probably wouldn't have us come all this way if you had no talent all. And apparently having this talent is rare" " I but those sneaky teachers knew which ones of us are common folk and snooty folk, they assume that the snooty folk are better than the common folk." "Snooty...?" Lan looks hurt by that

"Well, Burn, maybe if you have more money then you've already had more training in magic."

She covers her mouth. "Maybe that wasn't the right word?" She turns to Theros and giggles deciding to ignore Aryteneus.

Lan frowns and grows quiet. He felt hurt and confused at how much hate was in the room

How they carry themselves. How they speak or greet one another." He glances at Theros. "How they automatically despise those in better situations."

"How they automatically despise those in better situations." She looks down and suddenly becomes hyper aware of her tattered and burned clothes, her choppy uneven hair and her very thin frame. She sits down feeling increasingly embarrassed and ashamed

Probably cause nothing actually goes through your head."

"You can't even discuss yours civilly. Probably cause nothing actually goes through your head." He has to take a moment to understand the non-literal implications of the insult. "Well, that's true. Nothing does! It's what my grandma told me!" He looks around. "When is everyone else going to get done? I'm tired of waiting around. Maybe we should see if we can explore the halls!"

Of course the peasant accepts the truth of his education. That would only be natural, no?

"Have you seen how Burn and Theros act on occasion?" Pointing at the chocolate x and the chip in the wall. "Even I know not to make a mess of my new living space."

"I'm only beginning to dislike you, Ary!" Theros looks amused but a little confused. "But you have stupid ideas!" "Ary?" He looks confused and then shakes his head. "You can't even discuss yours civilly. Probably cause nothing actually goes through your head." Fletcher wrinkles his nose at the insult to Theros and glares at Aryteneus. "I don't hate people in better situations. Sometimes people are just lucky. It does seem a little unfair that you get to see all this sort of stuff every day and have nice clothes and good food and have nobody ever hurt you." Fletcher breathes in deep, growing visibly more emotional. "My family had five people all living in one room. We worked all day just to pay the landholder and buy bread and tools. I have had sweets four times in my life, that I remember. My dad got killed when a work cart fell on him. My mom does laundry from dawn until sunset some days to keep my brother and I fed, and I don't even know if she knows I'm alive. I own two sets of clothes. When I got apprenticed everyone was happy because smiths make enough to pay for a family if you're lucky." He looks on the verge of tears, but also surprised that he spoke that much, and walks away from the group briskly, setting down on one of the tables.
