The apprentices arrive back, hungry, dirty, and tired. They traveled throughout the night and arrive before the sun begins to peek up from the horizon.
Night guards allow the children into the church, seeming a bit surprised by the mess - especially Virgil's injury. One of the guards runs off, and pretty soon the elderly priest that met with the mentors arrives in his nightgown, holding a lantern.
"What is going on? Are you all right?"

Once that is settled he ushers the children into a side room and sits them down. He then calls for a few other priests who proceed to prepare drinks and snacks and provide blankets. He's acting like a very concerned parent. Kai accepts the treatment in silence. He sits down somewhere with them. He doesn't eat much. |
