These are just character-development type stuff, read if you have time and enjoy it! I keep thinking of things Kai would ask and chit chat about, so here's where I'm putting that. If the conversation is likely overheard, I'll put it in word for word, but I'll summarize if it's not likely overheard. By all means, if you guys make other side conversation you'd like to post here for being canon, please utilize this thread!

Timing: on the road two days after kidnapping/inn/bear experience. Lunch break.
"Abrus?" Kai glances suspiciously at the place in the trees where Caerus disappeared to go be alone for a while during this lunch rest on their travels. Kai looks back over to Abrus. Abrus had been brooding a little ways away from the group, and Kai had hopped over to talk. "What happened when he kidnapped you?"
"Quite a bit actually. Anything specific you wish to know?"
Kai's brows pinch as he thinks about that response for a brief few seconds. "I can think of some questions, but I was really just wanting to hear the story from you."
"Well i awoke in a damp dark cave tied up with Cearus looking at me with a demented look in his eye."
Kai listens, fiddling with a stick he picked up in the woods.
"He really tried to ham it up with the terrifying captor role. I will admit it was quite intimidating yet i never believed it wasn't really him."
"Not once?"
"Not particularly. He still acted very.... Caerus-like"
Kai snorts a little laugh at that. "And then what happened?"
"Well once intimidation didn't work we ended having pleasant conversation."
Kai looks incredulous, eyes wide and brows raised. "While you were tied up?" He taps the stick on the ground and then starts digging it into the dirt.
"He cut me out after a while."
"Why'd he cut you out? Why didn't you run away and find us?"
"He cut me out when I promised I wouldnt run."
"Why'd you promise not to run?" Kai looks at Abrus a little frustration showing up in his brow. "We've been a group forawhole year, and we don't even know him."
He shrugs. "It was very good conversation."
Kai hops up. "That's not a very good reason." He tosses his stick into the woods, hard. And then starts to wander off, deciding it's a good time to do arm stretches.
"I was merely seeing if you all were able to strategize without me.”
Kai turns to face Abrus again. "So you sided with Caerus over us?"
"For the purpose of a training exercise. Do you not agree we need work? How do you suggest we get better Kai?"
"Yeah we need work. We need to be able to work better together as a team, and we need to improve our skills at pretty much everything, and I don't have any idea /how/ we should get better, if I knew I'd be doing it. I know for me, I should not be rash and I should listen to you guys more, and I've been trying. How do you think we get better, Abrus?"
"Communication. And not getting so caught up on feelings. They cloud the judgement and cause distrust among team members. I know you can't all be, what does Rose call me, a heartless monster? But we should at least try to aim for an air of professionalism."
"Yeah, those are all things we should get better at too. I wish I knew how! Why'd Rose call you a heartless monster?" He grins again at that epithet. At least it's better than Lamb.
"It wasn't long before we met Cearus. I was the mock leader and was trying to get everyone properly motivated."
"You mean right after the battle? She called you a monster for motivating us?"
He seems amused, eyebrows raised
"She called me a monster because I discuss the contract. Perhaps she thought I meant to start on them immediately in which case that’s a miscommunication on my part.”
"Oh, that." Kai looks anxious and angry. "The stupid contract."
"Indeed." He scowls a bit and stares at nothing in particular.

Timing: Some random day in the new safehouse, probably among the first few days.
“Kai should try and learn his letters that’s an important thing.”
“yeah yeah yeah it's important, it's just hard and boring.” Kai rolls his eyes.
“So?! So is everything else”
“Not everything else is boring or hard! Sword training is hard but not boring!”
“Yes it is Ive done ut a thousand times.”
“Is everything boring to you?”
“No!” Nanaris looks offended .
“So not everything is boring!” Kai crosses his arms triumphantly. “What's not boring to you?”
“Fighting”
“Same here! I like fighting too. Is there anything else that's not boring? We could go cliff climbing!”
“Cliff climbing? Why?”
“b'cause it's fun, adventurous, and dangerous! And b'cause we /can/!”
"Just because we can doesn't mean we should. Cliffs are pretty tall could we do it?"
"What's should got to do with it? I don't know if we could do it, so that makes it sound more fun!"
"I guess we could try it. But if we fall we might die"
"That's what makes it fun! And I'm sure we can tie ourselves to a rock or something if we want, so we don't die from falling."
“Dying isn't fun.”
"no it isn't, but the risk is!"
“why would you?”
"Because I can! And because I've always wanted to, and because it's risky, and because I bet there's lotsa stuff to discover like bird nests and snake nests and caves! And if you look out over the sea from there it's even more beautiful!"
“Shouldn't you value your life more?”
"I do value my life, but since we gotalota scary risks to deal with, we might as well have fun ones too! Like sparing! And climbing!"
“Maybe...”
Kai grins, “If fighting isn't boring, I don't see why cliff climbing would be! Why isn't fighting boring?"
“Should it be?”
"You said it wasn't so I was just wondering why you liked it!"
“I don't know maybe I shouldn't”
"Why not? You like what you like, what's 'should' got to do with it?"
“Do most people like it? Most people like watching at least.”
"I don't think most people like fighting. I've metalota people who don't at all!"
"Why?"
"I think most people are scareda getting hurt." He reaches up with his left hand and rubs his own back a little.
"That's how you get killed.”
"Bein' scared of getting hurt is how you get killed?"
Nod "If you're scared for your life you don't fight well.”
Kai grins and nods in sincere agreement.

Timing: Some random day in the new secret safehouse.
Kai pesters Caerus in his study, they chat about things like letters, how Caerus is 102 years old, and dead people. It escalates to a high tension ending with Caerus ordering Kai out and Kai busting out of the room like the devil's on his tail. If anyone was near by they'd have noticed that.

Rose and Caerus talked for awhile. She opened up and told him a lot of things she probably didn't tell anyone else. Seemed like the two got alone well enough. Caerus showed her some new tricks and moves while they sparred a bit. Then drama llama appeared and they both said somethings they both regretted.
